Alsbach Castle history

In 1463, the castle was captured and burned by the troops of Frankfurt am Main in response to the robbery of merchants by the owner of the castle. June 9, 1504, during the War of the Succession of Landshut, the castle surrendered without a fight to the troops under the command of William II, Landgrave of Hesse. After the end of the war, the castle was repaired and the fortifications modernized. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the castle fell into disrepair and was preserved in ruins.

Since 2000, the castle has been managed by the Historischer und kultureller Förderverein Schloss Alsbach e. V. on behalf of the State of Hesse.
