Biedenkopf Castle history

Around 1231 the castle was connected to the defensive wall of the town of Biedenkopf. Around 1296 the castle was probably damaged during an armed conflict between Henry I, Landgrave of Hesse and his sons. In the second half of the 15th century, the palas was built in the inner bailey of the castle. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was captured several times and badly damaged. In the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, many parts of the castle have been restored. The owner of the castle is the district of Marburg-Biedenkopf. Backland Museum is located on four floors of the Palas building and is operated by the Schloßverein Biedenkopf e.V..
