Description of Hohengeroldseck Castle

Outer defensive walls, about 10 meters high of the Lower Castle and the main building of the Upper Castle have been preserved. It is a type of castle without a tower house and a keep. The ring defensive wall had a wall-walk with loopholes and was 2.10 meters thick. The two main buildings of the Upper Castle, erected on the rock, were about 50 meters long and 20 meters maximum wide. They were separated by a courtyard. The facade of the four-storey knight's house, is still largely intact. On the second floor there was a great hall with an area of 80 square meters.
