Hohenneuffen Castle history

In the 15th century, the expansion of the castle to a state fortress began. From the middle of the 16th century advanced outworks, roundels, bastions, casemates, and an arsenal were built.

During the Thirty Years' War on November 22, 1635, after a 15-month siege, the commandant of the castle signed the capitulation. In the 18th century, the Duke of Württemberg began to rebuild the castle into a French-style fortress. However, he died before the fortress was built, and his successor soon abandoned the plan due to high costs and dubious military benefits. Since 1795, it was no longer used and the nearest inhabitants dismantled the castle for building materials.
