Hohenrechberg Castle history
From 1448 to 1450, the troops of the imperial cities of Schwäbisch Gmünd and Schwäbisch Hall plundered the area around the castle, but did not dare to attack it. During the Peasants' War of 1525, the castle was not captured. In 1546 the castle was besieged by the Schmalkaldic League, but the castle remained intact. The castle was occupied by the French in 1648 during the Thirty Years' War and in 1796 during the French Revolutionary Wars, but was never destroyed. On January 6, 1865, the castle burned down as a result of a fire caused by a lightning strike.
Description of Hohenrechberg Castle
The castle has an irregular polygonal plan including a stone defensive wall, a palas next to a rectangular gate tower, a well 30 meters deep, and a castle chapel.
