Prozelten Castle history

In 1320 the castle was handed over to the Teutonic Order, which owned Prozelten Castle for 150 years and carried out major transformations that gave the castle its present appearance. The small keep and western palas were built, as well as defensive systems and fortified towers for gunpowder weapons that surrounded the entire castle, as well as an underpass on the critical northwestern flank.

The castle escaped the ravages of the Peasants' War and the Thirty Years' War, and only the destruction caused by the storm is mentioned in the annals, not the effects of the war. For almost 200 years, the castle was occupied by only a few officials and soldiers, and most of the complex was not used, and it is slowly being destroyed. Since 1814 the castle belongs to Bavaria. In 2020, the castle ruins have been largely restored.
