Description of Steinau Castle

Steinau Castle is the pentagonal bastion fort with solid bastions at each corner. Defensive walls and the keep are still preserved from the medieval castle. The keep is the mighty square tower 41 meters high. Mews from 1558 have been preserved near the keep. On the western side of the inner courtyard is the building of the Hanau Lords' Palace, which has the shape of an irregular pentagon with four outbuildings. The castle contains the Castle Museum and the Brothers Grimm Museum. Since 1957 the castle has been owned by Staatliche Schlösser und Gärten Hessen.
