Castle Watergate, intended to protect the channel of the River Erft, is located in the northern part of the eastern defensive wall of Bad Münstereifel Fortifications. The watergate was built in the 14th century (around 1340 but not confirmed) as a defensive wall with a semicircular arch for the river channel.
