Dettelbach Fortifications by EuroTourData
Dettelbach Fortifications were built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries as the city walls around Old Town, and for the most part preserved, restored and available for free sightseeing. The fortifications successfully withstood the first armed conflict during the German Peasants' War in 1525. During the Thirty Years War, the fortifications of the city largely lost their defensive function. Medieval fortifications could not withstand the modern artillery of the warring groups. In 1631, the population opened their city to the Swedes without a fight. Info based on articles Dettelbacher Stadtbefestigung and Stadtbefestigung Dettelbach.
