Hospital Gate Tower was built in the 14th century (around 1380 but not confirmed) as the gate tower and the old southern city gate of Weißenburg Medieval Fortifications. The tower ceased to serve as the city gate after the expansion of Weißenburg fortifications to the south. In 1729 the tower was modified.
