Oscar II Fort by EuroTourData
Oscar II Fort was built in 1907 as the coastal artillery fort to protect the seaport of Gothenburg and was the main part of Älvsborg Fortress. The fort is built into the rock, accommodates 300 people, and consists of several hundred meters of corridors with rooms required for living and for fighting. The fort is surrounded by a moat and has caponiers to defend against an infantry attack. The fort's armament includes two 240-millimeter cannons in self-lowering gun carriages, two 152-millimeter cannons in armored turrets, four 57-millimeter cannons in armored turrets and caponier cannons. Info is based on the article Älvsborgs fästning of Swedish Wikipedia.
